I haven’t had much experience at all in backpackers but I was impressed with the Civic Guesthouse. The staff has mostly been very friendly, accommodating, and helpful, and the general atmosphere really positive and safe which is awesome. They have a good cleaning routine so the place is in good condition and maintained really well. It’s in a great location and has all the amenities/facilities you need. Noise management is handled really well with a nighttime quiet rule.

We stayed at Hotel Allen for two weeks in early August 2019. We found our room clean and comfortable. Our balcony overlooked Gregory Street. Thank you, Carol, Kim, and everyone else for making our stay great. We had many seniors’ meals at Hotel Allen. These meals were tasty and very good value. There is no better location in Townsville than this Hotel. It is only a few minutes walk to The Strand, Queens Park, shops, and many restaurants. During our stay, there was a light display at Queens Park and an arts festival (with great music) at the Strand. We hope to return next year.

It’s the little things that make a difference- the fresh hand towels in the bathroom. The kitchen was cleaned daily and new tea towels were provided. Complimentary tea, coffee, and beach towels. It’s a very handy location – a quick walk to the convenience store, pub up the road, bus stops, and wallabies. You can hire snorkel gear and a 4wd but we didn’t. The staff were friendly and helpful with information about the island. Several families stayed whilst we were there and guests were quiet in the evenings. property has better water pressure.

After staying in a few other Nomads/Base hostels, I was a bit skeptical because they didn’t leave a good impression on me. But I really liked this hostel! We were sleeping in cabins with a gorgeous view of the sea. The pool was nice and the bar is very nice and sociable as well! The only downside was the big communal bathroom, which just doesn’t get cleaned very well.

Great location, and walk away from greats restaurant and shops. The rooms were clean and tidy, super basic but all you need for a short stay. A working fridge and kettle (with milk) were provided which was great! The quiet hotel is nice, we didn’t try the pool area but it looked good. Would stay again for a short time.

We were going to drive into Townsville earlier than anticipated, and a phone call to enquire if we could check in earlier was very friendly and accommodating. The check-in staff was helpful and amiable. We parked our larger car in the ‘top’ carpark (unsecured, no cover). Our room was 2 queen beds, a modern ensuite, great little kitchen space – all well-appointed. We don’t drink coffee but noticed one of those pod coffee machines, as well as tea/milk, microwave, and ample crockery and cutlery.
