The North Australian Festival of Arts (NAFA), a month-long celebration of artistic, cultural, and lifestyle events, will be presented by Townsville City Council and will be larger and better than before. This yearly Arts and Cultural Festival, which highlights the creative melting pot of Northern Australia, is something the Council is devoted to putting on. In order to aid the neighborhood arts community, rebuild the tourism and events industry, and boost economic recovery during the height of the global pandemic in 2020, Council was able to offer a modified, COVID Safe version of the Festival. An occasion created to publicize Scottish events and functions held in the Townsville area.

It takes place in conjunction with Cotters Market in Flinders Street and is a part of the Townsville Tartan Weekend, which runs from Friday night to Sunday night. The sixth of April is a Scottish holiday celebrated in North America in conjunction with the Declaration of Arbroath and the donning of tartan.  In other parts of the world, we commemorate the two events on or around the dates of their respective anniversaries.

All Scots-Australians are encouraged to wear their tartan on July 1, however in order to allow as many people as possible to participate in the celebration, we have chosen to hold tartan day on the Sunday that is closest to the anniversary or another day.

5. The Smith Street Band

The Smith Street Band recently finished their “Life After Football” Australian Tour, selling out all of the main cities in the country. They have recently announced an East Coast Tour, which will start with three shows in North Queensland and stop in smaller coastal communities.

Life After Football, the group’s 14th album, was hailed by Forte Mag as “Smith Street at their best, highlighting a renewal of the group’s pub rock roots and showing that, overall, the group is aging pretty damn well.”The Smith Street Band’s east coast tour includes shows in rural NSW and Victoria in addition to North Queensland’s Cairns, Townsville, and Airlie Beach. As part of the tour, the bands will also perform at the now-sold-out Cambridge Hotel Farewell event in Newcastle.
